Soldiers Return from Iraq and Re-tie the KnotSeptember 25, 2005
Peoria, IL - Two years ago Michael and Alissa Dorsey were hastily married before being deployed to Iraq in November, 2003. The couple were deployed separately - Michael with the Army National Guard's 106th Aviation Wing, Alissa with the Air National Guard's 182nd Airlift Wing. They both knew at the time of their first small, intimate ceremony that they would do it again someday on a grander scale. Alissa even purchased two wedding dresses, a simple dress for the first wedding ceremony, and a more elaborate white satin wedding gown for the future ceremony. Alissa has also had her original wedding ring reset with a center stone picked out by Michael.
The two 21-year-olds are now finally living together and attending a local college after returning home from the Middle East. "I didn't hear his voice for two months," Alissa said. "It's almost like talking to a stranger when you do finally talk."
The two will finally have a honeymoon in Jamaica over the summer when school is out.
